Silverchair, a leader in independent hosting for scholarly publishers, has announced its acquisition of ScholarOne Manuscripts and Conferences from Clarivate Plc. This move marks a significant expansion in Silverchair's capabilities, positioning it as a uniquely client-focused partner for publishers' technology needs. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2024, subject to customary conditions.
ScholarOne is a critical submission platform used by over 9,000 scholarly journals and conferences worldwide. Its integration into Silverchair's offerings will allow the company to extend support through additional stages of the publishing lifecycle, from submission and peer review to content hosting and distribution. Silverchair's recent investments in AI and automation, backed by Thompson Street Capital Partners, will complement ScholarOne's systems, fostering faster, more efficient publishing workflows.Silverchair CEO Will Schweitzer shared that the acquisition is part of a long-term vision set forth by the company's founder, Thane Kerner, aimed at empowering the scholarly community with innovative tools. Silverchair plans to invest heavily in ScholarOne's technology, helping authors, editors, and publishers navigate the expanding needs of the research landscape.
This acquisition follows substantial recent enhancements to Silverchair's core platform, which included adding new products like Sensus Impact and launching the Silverchair AI Lab. The combination with ScholarOne brings Silverchair even closer to offering end-to-end technology solutions across more of the publishing lifecycle. Emmanuel Thiveaud of Clarivate expressed confidence in Silverchair as the right home for ScholarOne, citing a strong alignment in their mission to support scholarly publishers.
Oxford University Press, a long-time partner of Silverchair, praised the merger. John Campbell, Product Strategy Director, noted the impact of Silverchair's services and said OUP looks forward to Silverchair's expanded role in submission and peer review workflows. ScholarOne's Senior Director of Product Management, Josh Dahl, shared similar enthusiasm, expressing his team's excitement to serve the scholarly publishing community as part of an independent, end-to-end partnership. Emilie Delquie, Silverchair's Chief Product & Customer Success Officer, highlighted the strategic opportunity to bring AI and automation to the publishing lifecycle, improving efficiency for all stakeholders. She emphasized that upcoming investments would strengthen ScholarOne's offerings in trust, transparency, and user experience, signaling a bold vision for scholarly infrastructure supported by continuous input from the community.
With ScholarOne's acquisition, Silverchair strengthens its position in scholarly publishing, expanding support across the publishing lifecycle with enhanced AI and automation capabilities. This move underscores Silverchair's commitment to trust, efficiency, and innovation, positioning it as a leading technology partner prepared to meet the evolving needs of the academic community.
